Cool booklet (48 pages) on a subject that hasn't received much coverage in the amateur military weapons literature. The first 16 pages or so give a brief history of the German V1 and also Soviet BM- series of rockets and associated truck launchers of WW II fame. Then there are a couple of pages of the US response in the form of the Snark, Regulus, and Matador. Finally, page 20 begins the story of the Soviet development of cruise missiles launched from airplanes and surface warships and submarines. There were also a couple of ground-launched models intended for coastal defense. Most of the Soviet cruise missiles were developed to counter US aircraft carriers.

The text is pretty sparse. Most of the book consists of black and white photos with reasonably informative captions. Page 37 consists of tabulations of dimensions and performance characteristics of about a dozen models of Soviet cruise missiles of the late 1940s / early 1950s era.

Several of the early Soviet cruise missiles were designed by Vladimir Chelomei of later ICBM design fame (pages 20 - 27).
